Do you offer private or customized tours?

Yes! We offer tailored private experiences for individuals, families, and larger groups. Whether you want a customized itinerary or an exclusive guide for your group, contact us directly through our Request a Custom Booking page to plan your ideal journey.

How far in advance should I book?

We recommend booking at least 1 to 2 weeks in advance, especially during peak travel seasons, as group sizes are limited to keep experiences intimate. If you're looking for last-minute availability, you can check our booking calendar for next-day spots.

Is Kyoto accessible for travelers with mobility limitations?

Due to the historic nature of Kyoto's heritage sites, most walking and cycling tours involve physical barriers such as uneven cobblestones, loose gravel, narrow steps, and traditional wooden structures without ramps.

‍Standard Tours: Our standard walking and e-bike experiences are designed for guests who can comfortably walk short-to-moderate distances, navigate steps, and stand for extended periods.

‍Wheelchair Access: Standard public transit and walking routes are generally not fully wheelchair-accessible. Fully accessible customized itineraries typically require private vehicle transfers (utilizing a collapsible wheelchair) and tailored routes that focus on modern or flat barrier-free locations.Custom Adaptations: If you or someone in your group has mobility concerns, please contact us before booking. While we cannot alter the historic architecture of Kyoto's temples, we will give you an honest assessment of what is realistic and help tailor a private route to minimize stairs and long walking distances.

Guest Stories

Our family of 5 was blown away by Tiro’s bike tour of Kyoto. He’s knowledgeable with a flare of levity. Tiro quickly read our interest with a few leading questions and catered the tour accordingly. Not a second wasted, we managed to cover so much ground…history, culture, nature, local food recommendations and architecture. Don’t hesitate to book with Tiro.

He took plenty of time to show us some beautiful and special places in Kyoto that we probably would not have discovered on our own. We cycled along the river, stopping several times while Tiro gave us interesting explanations and pointed out things we would otherwise have missed. We visited the shrine dedicated to beauty and even tried a delicious “beauty potion” 😊

We were extremely impressed with Tiro’s knowledge of ancient Japanese history and were continuously entertained by his general knowledge of Japanese culture. The tour itself was short but compacted with plenty of conversation and laughs. Thank you Tiro very much for a wonderful experience!

We did our bike tour through Kyoto with Tiro today and had a blast! He took us to places where we would have not gone on our own and adjusted the tour spontaneously to our wishes. Because of his flexibility, we could visit a temple and partake in a cleaning and candle celebration, which only takes place this time of the year. We traveled through little Streets, learned about Kyoto, went to an old-fashioned coffee and tea house, (which we would not have found on our own) and spend some time at the river and finally a food market, with the best sushi!! We had a great time and really appreciate all the time Tiro took to explain to us the history of Kyoto at all the different places we stoped. He is a well of information! Thank you for showing us these places in Kyoto and for all the explanations and stories how the city evolved and the religion behind it. Thank you for going beyond our expectations! All the best for you and your family! ♥️

As someone who works in the tourism industry and organizes group experiences around the world, I have very high expectations when it comes to guides—and I can confidently say that working with Tiro in Kyoto was an absolute pleasure. I was planning a tour for three families (5 adults and 5 children), which is no small task. From the very beginning, he was organized, professional, and incredibly easy to work with. Throughout the day, he kept everyone engaged, seamlessly balancing the interests of both the adults and the children. His knowledge of Japan’s history, culture, traditions, and local way of life was exceptional. Every stop came with fascinating stories and context that brought Kyoto to life, and his recommendations—whether for food, hidden gems, or local experiences—were outstanding. What impressed me most, however, was his ability to adapt. When circumstances required our plans to change, he pivoted effortlessly. Not only did he find excellent alternatives, but he managed everything so smoothly that our group never even realized the itinerary had been adjusted. That’s the mark of an exceptional guide. Beyond his knowledge, his personality truly sets him apart. He is warm, patient, personable, and has a natural ability to connect with people of all ages. The children genuinely enjoyed spending time with him just as much as the adults did, which is a rare quality. As a tourism professional, I genuinely believe he has an incredibly bright future ahead of him. Guides with this combination of professionalism, adaptability, knowledge, and charisma are hard to find. I look forward to working with him on many more tours in the future and would recommend him without hesitation to anyone looking for an unforgettable experience in Kyoto.
